What is on the entrance exam?

Erie 1 BOCES' utilizes the TABE test for the entrance exam. The TABE is the Test of Adult Basic Education. It is a brief analysis of your math and reading skills. For more information, please visit the TABE website.

How do I register for the TABE test?

1. Click here to access the client application for Workforce Development.
   1. • Complete entire application.
2. Click here to access the registration page for the TABE test.
   • Select the date you would like to take the test.
     On Fridays, we offer the TABE in-person and on Tuesdays/Wednesdays, we offer the TABE virtually.
   • Create an account and follow the prompts to register for the TABE test.
3. You will receive an email confirmation after you have registered and completed an application for the TABE test.

IN-PERSON Entrance Exam Details

• In-person testing is offered on select Fridays at 9:30 a.m. at Erie 1 BOCES Workforce Development North Campus (1526 Walden Avenue, Suite 200, Cheektowaga, NY 14225). (some exclusions apply)
• In-person testing is also offered off-site on select Tuesdays at 9:30 a.m. at the Workforce Buffalo Downtown Career Center (DCC) (prev. BETC) (77 Broadway Street, Buffalo, NY 14203).
• Registration closes on the Wednesday before testing and is highly encouraged.
• You must be on-time and have a valid school or government-issued identification on the day of testing.

ONLINE Entrance Exam Details

• Online testing is offered select Tuesdays or Wednesdays at 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. (some exclusions apply)
• Registration closes on Wednesday the week before testing.
• Testing will be facilitated via Zoom. The Zoom link and testing instructions will be emailed to you a few days before testing. Once you receive the email, complete a dry run to make sure your technology works. Please check your spam and trash folders if you have not received your testing email.
• You must be on-time and have a valid school or government-issued identification on the day of testing.

Technical Requirements for Online Testing

• Desktop, Laptop Computer or Chromebook: fully charged (No iPads, tablets or phones are to be used)
• Microphone: any microphone, either internal or external
• Webcam: 320x240 VGA resolution (minimum), either internal or external
• Google Chrome: installed and updated, you will not be able to take the proctored assessment with any other browser
• A well-lit, quiet space to take the assessment

When will I get my results? What are the next steps?

Exam results will be available approximately 48 hours after testing. Erie 1 BOCES will contact you by phone or email to discuss funding and further details.

What happens if I don't pass?

Candidates may retest twice within 1 year (365 days). 30 days must have passed between tests. You are required to register for each test date.
