Barbering

You will be trained in the skills necessary to pursue NYS Licensing as a Barber. The 600-hour training program includes hands-on experience in hair styling, cutting, clipping and shaving. (600 Hour Program)

Tuition

$9,500
Tuition includes instruction, books and supplies. An additional $50 application fee to NYS Division of Licensing will be required at the time of testing. Financial assistance may be available through Federal Student Aid, ACCES-VR, the US Department of Veterans Affairs or other sources. A Financial Aid Coordinator is on staff to assist you.
A $300 security deposit is required to reserve your spot in this class.

Admissions Requirements

  • A valid high school diploma, GED or college degree from the U.S. is required. (HS diplomas with modified curriculum or individualized programs are not accepted.) Applicants who do not meet these requirements must complete an entrance exam. Please contact Rashada Jackson to schedule.
  • A completed Registration Application.
  • A $300 security deposit is required to reserve your spot in this class.
  • A personal interview will be conducted.
  • Minimum age for enrollment is 18. (Exceptions may apply at the discretion of the Program Coordinator.)

*Exceptions to admissions may be considered based on work history, prior education, personal interview and employer recommendations.

Step 1: Fill out our Registration Application.

Step 2: Confirm your valid high school diploma, GED or college degree.

  • You can do this by sending a copy of your high school/college transcripts to Rashada Jackson. (You may also bring a copy of your high school diploma to the school between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. to be verified by staff. GEDs from NYS can be verified here.)
  • If you are unable to verify this information, please contact Rashada Jackson to schedule an entrance exam.

Step 3: Secure funding. If you are planning to apply for Federal Student Aid, including Pell and Direct Student Loans, you should start the FAFSA application process now. Visit http://studentaid.gov and use School Code 012557.

Step 4: Meet with the Program Manager, sign the Tuition and Enrollment Agreement and pay program deposit.

For Licensed Cosmetologists:

Current cosmetologists can transfer into the 600-hour Barbering program and can complete in 300 hours.

Transfer Students

$20 per hour.
Transfer students are charged $20 per hour to complete Workforce Development Salon and Spa Programs. Transfer students will be registered for one of our scheduled sessions, but are only required to attend for the number of hours needed to complete.

Entry-level Barbers may be independent contractors who rent chairs, own shops or are paid a commission or hourly wage. Many variables contribute to the average salary a Barber can earn.
